Experience with Judith P. Hoyer Montessori?

Does anyone have any experience with this school? Its online reviews are good but the test scores seem rather low, pretty much the same as our neighborhood school.

I know a TON of people at Hoyer and they all are very happy. It is a close knit school community. I wouldn't hesitate for a minute if my child got in.

Do you know anything about getting in the lottery for kids after K? How easy is it to get in at first grade? My daughter is older and did not get in and I would like to try and get her a spot too eventually and have them at the same school.

I know two people who have gotten in after K. In one case they didn't get the slot until right before the school year so they forfeited the private Montessori tuition they had already paid.

This is our first year at Hoyer in PK 3. I was hesitant about enrolling due to the scores because my neighborhood school ranges from 8 to 9 on Great Schools. We live much closer to RGMS and their scores are higher than Hoyer. I think it due to Hoyer being a smaller school and possibly SES difference. Hoyer went up a point this year so maybe as it grows the scores will continue to improve.

We did enroll and I'm happy with the school. I went to Montessori school and wanted the same experience for my kids. My plan is to not consider leaving until after K as you really need at least 3 years of Montessori to see the benefits. If after K I don't feel like it is working for us we can move to our neighborhood school or private.

Please attend an open house to meet with the principal (she is wonderful) and learn more about the school. It's my belief that if you are a parent who is involved in your child's education they will do well. Hoyer has a sense of community and it seems like the children care about each other and that too helps them to succeed.

We are in a similar situation wherein we are close to RGMS but will be reassigned to Judith Hoyer due to our move to Bowie this Summer.

Can I have some feedback on how this school fares for grades from Prek 4 until elementary ? I have my concerns due to its poor rating and due to our fantastic experience in RGMS we feel we will searching for the same standard but will be left disappointed.

Any feedback on teachers and the school will help allay my concerns. Thanks a lot !
