Remove/kill monkey grass

Anonymous
I have an area that I would like to replant but it is almost entirely almost monkey grass. I read that it is possible to dig up but that sounds like a horrible project. If I kill it all with Round Up, how long do I have to wait for the soil to recover before I can replant the area?

Just dig it up.

roundup is not active in the soil. you could spray RU in the morning and plant right away.

round up only works on the leaves and soft tissues of the plant. so you could spray RU on the trunk of a tree or a woody shrub and nothing would happen.

RU might be easier than digging, but since monkey grass is related to liriop and I have noticed that liriope can be somewhat resistant to RU at lower rates you may have to make multiple applications to kill the monkey grass.

Yeah, Roundup is killing us all. Dig it up, spray vinegar, or pick it up one by one.

Don't use roundup, that stuff is poison. You could ask a neighbor if they want the monkey grass & will dig it up in exchange (I would). It is easy to dug up, get a shovel under it & you can pretty much pop it all up.

Roundup is a poison in an quantity. Unless of course you don't like bees or pollination.

Run it over with your lawnmower. Then dig it up. Roundup is actual poison and banned in some places.

Do you mean liriope? Lots of people would LOVE to come dig it up and take it off your hands. Put it on the listserv in your neighborhood.
