Got a letter from this organization stating my DC had an interview regarding financial aid and merit aid "uniquely for your child"
guessing this is some kind of bait and switch, but thought the hive mind of DCUM would let me know if worth my time |

| Sure- they will charge you thousands of dollars to do what you can do yourself. Start with you school counselor. |
Good advice. NP here. Tonight I asked my DS the name of his school counselor. He didn't know so I had to look it up and may make an appointment to meet with her. Is that typical or do they usually just meet with the student? |

You need to be proactive. Don't leave it to chance that your DS has a good HS counselor. Start now and read as much of the College Confidential website as you can absorb. That's a start.

We are trying to be proactive. Thanks. He is a junior and someone at work said he (we) should also meet with the career counselor. We will look into that too.
I am checking out the College Confidential site now. |
| In most public schools around DC the guidance counselors don't really focus on the HS juniors until April or May, when the seniors finally make the selections for college. You can request an earlier meeting with the counselor, however. It is on the student and parent to make that happen, however. |
