Would you let 14 YO bike home without helmet ONCE?

DS texted me that he forgot his helmet this morning (how could DH have missed this?!?) and is supposed to bike to his friend's house after school. Grrrrr.......

Not in this area. Way too dangerous. He can leave his bike and walk. No helmet, no bike. And it's because I don't trust the drivers on the road today.

+1 Unfortunately it only takes once.

Yup.

No.

No-partly because it only takes once and partly because not being able to go to his friends house is a good natural consequence for breaking family rules by riding his bike without his helmet.

I would, but seemingly I'm in the minority

Yes

Yes, absolutely.

I would. But I biked all over the place with no helmet at that age.

You're lucky. Look who wasn't?

Takes about 4 seconds to google plenty of bad accidents.

Those of you who are saying you biked all ov3er4 with no helmet, so it must be safe....

are idiots.

We used to drill teeth without Novocain, too. Would you like that?

What about the kids who suffered brain injuries? Don't know any so it must not happen?

Do you wear seat belts? Nobody used to, why should we now?

Not a chance. Not even to the mailbox and back.

No helmet, no biking, skiing, hockey, skateboarding, sledding.
