This seems to be all my DD wants to do these days, and she's asking for some kind of camera for Christmas.
Any recommendations? Thank you!! |

Second the iphone or maybe mini Ipad recommendation - perhaps with a tripod. That's all she need for the 5 minute video clips she's probably envisioning.
Also, if she wants really good experience with filmmaking - I highly recommend Imagination Stage's classes. There she will use real cameras, real editing software, and plan/write/act/direct in the stories. |
| I wouldn't open the door to this. |

Not sure how much you want to spend, we got this for my son & he likes it. Knock-off Gopro. comes with waterproof case & other accessories.

| My 12 year old DS uses his IPad all the time to make movies with his friends. They're actually pretty good. |

My DC mostly uses a go pro but also an iPhone. Mine is a couple years older and has a great time doing this with friends and they use a lot of creativity with editing and music.
My suggestion to you is that when/if you give her a camera and permission to make videos, that you do it with clearly stated ground rules. When we gave our DCs a phone, they also had to sign an electronics agreement which includes rules for all online activities, social media, phone/text use, and video. Just my 2 cents. When I was a kid, my friends and I would record ourselves with a tape recorder, video is the modern day equivalent. However, Now things can so easily end up in the wrong hands - a "mean" girl, bully or creep. I let DC have fun with it but also use it as a teaching experience. |
