Elon University

I believe the college counseling office at his school let them know he would likely not attend. He applied as a safety. Obviously there is serious yield protection going on there as they continue to work the rankings. Makes me even less impressed with the school than I was before.

Seems like Elon dodged a bullet.

But Elon maintained their tours, and fully expected kids to take them.

Not really. They halted tours for a while and closed campus for a period, which prevented our tour last year but DC got in. Now tours are limited. I seriously doubt they are expecting out of state kids to tour. NC perhaps.

Rejecting or waitlisting high stats kids that a school knows are unlikely to attend is not new. It's been going on for years. Schools like Elon, Tulane etc., figure out what profile student is likely to accept and will often offer kids on the higher end of that group merit.

Seriously? You really believe that your kids counselor- who has many other students to think about- took the time to let a university that has thousands of applicants know that your one specific child might view them as a safety?

Wow.

NP. This is absolutely how it works. Do you think HS college counseling offices don't talk to the admissions offices? That's actually the main part of their job. In this instance, as an example, HS had maybe 5 applicants to Elon. Three of them actually want to go there, other 2 are safeties. Colllege counseling office talks to Elon admissions about all 5. Tells them straight up, don't worry about those 2, they're not going to to to Elon. So the three get acceptances, the other 2 get WL. This is 100% how it works--with schools like Elon, anyway, who are actively trying to move up the to 100 rankings.

Maybe at some privates but otherwise not so much. Given the random nature of admissions, striking a blow against the two "safety" candidates seems an unlikely approach.

Not if they know that those 2 already got into higher choice schools. I actually happen to know this happened with my kid at another school. And yes, this is at privates. I can see that at larger public schools, this may not be how the process works.

To those saying Elon doesn’t matriculate students into coveted positions post-grad- you’re wrong. Top tier consultancies, elite IB/ MA groups within banking, high-ranking medical schools and various Top-10 masters programs. Just browsing my LinkedIn I see tons of peers at EY, JPM, BOA, Deloitte, IBM, KPMG, GS, and other elite boutiques like KKR, Apollo, Lazard, Bain Capitol etc.

For some reason there are people out there who hate the idea of a school that’s incredibly fun yet matriculates students into coveted career positions.

I had friends and friends of friends who visited from Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, Richmond, Davidson, BC, BU, Clemson and plenty of other schools on the East Coast who all said the same thing- “this is the most fun school I’ve visited”.

Elon is the most beautiful, naturally welcoming campus I’ve ever explored with some of the most energetic, friendly students. The “prestigious” factor is rising yearly and Elon is becoming a household name.

Alright? The point still stands and the aforementioned information could help future prospects of the university.

Elon has become much more popular in those years, especially in the private schools.

What do you want us to do with this information?

You have sour grapes. Okay.

If you think those top 25 don’t game the rankings, I can’t help you. They ALL game the rankings.

+1. There is no winning with this crowd. If PP had started a new thread there’d be vitriol about “use the search function, there are multiple threads in this”.
