Well said. Had the same thoughts regarding our kids FCPS high school. Based on the high % of kids in the low income bracket I'm consistently impressed with the number of grads moving on to some type of post HS education every year. The students that are in higher income families often attend schools mentioned as desirable schools here |
We have the best schools in the country. |
Maybe they can teach you the difference between then and than. You're a brilliant person, really. |
Exactly. George Mason and NOVA are good colleges! Once you get in the real world, it doesn't matter as long as your kids get their degree. |
| Your kid can attend the “best” fcps high school, but that is no guarantee they will go to a top ranked university. They will not succeed just because they share a bathroom with a National Merit finalist. Just as they wil not end up being a criminal, low life, or God forbid, go to NOVA if they go to a lower ranked fcps school. They still have to put in the work to succeed. |
Obviously but it’s still good to attend schools with substantial cohorts of high-achieving kids. Among other things, it allows a school to offer more classes in certain advanced subjects, which can mitigate scheduling conflicts. |
That poster is such a troll. |
They are not good. They are ok. And many kids who go there would agree. |
|
Your post makes no sense. If you are a rich kid, you'll get into a rich kid school. If you are a poor kid, you'll struggle at any high school because the deck is stacked against you.
The high school is not the most important factor even though some schools want you to believe they have the secret sauce. |
No, that honor goes to Florida. As much as DCUM loves to cast aspersions on FL, they have the best public schools in the US, with NJ and Mass coming in 2nd and 3rd. Virginia is #11. At one time, a couple of decades ago, VA was probably #1. No longer. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/education |
Ah, such a missed opportunity! |
FCPS does not equal VA. |
| OP's question is hard to answer because colleges actively try to remove the factor of school quality when evaluating students. |
Any ranking that puts Florida schools as number #1, is not worth the paper/electronic it's written on. |
VA was never #1 |
