Share your DDs homecoming dress - and make suggestions

Anonymous
DD's school does not have homecoming but she has been invited by two old girlfriends to attend theirs. ALl are in 9th grade and they will go as a group of three without boys.
I am at a loss as to how fancy a dress. We scouted the mall yesterday and came up empty.
DD is on the shorter side - 5'2" and is pretty self-conscience. Would prefer something with sleeves rather than thin straps or halter top.

I am looking for what other 14 year olds wear to homecoming without a date.
Also, I would love any links to suggestions!

TIA

She could get a pretty dress with thin straps or a halter and then get a pretty shrug with short or long sleeves to wear with it.

Look on macys, dillards, and prom girl for dresses
We went to Tysons over the weekend and found nothing.

My 14 yo (who went with a group of girlfriends) got her dress at Francesca's. Look at https://www.francescas.com/category/dresses/shift-dresses.do and https://www.francescas.com/category/dresses/special-occasion-dresses.do.

She went with a simple solid colored dress and did fun sparkly drop earrings and glittery low heeled sandals to dress it up.

The girls had a lot of fun, BTW. Her friends who went with boys they barely knew said they wished they had just gone with friends!

PP here again...my DD is only 5' tall and the XS at Francesca's fit her. She wore a sleeveless dress, and just had it taken in a bit under the arms/along the torso so her bra wouldn't show.

All the girls in my daughter's group of friends wore solid short dresses - either lace fabric or plain -- with strappy shoes of various heights. That seemed to be the standard style among the girls I saw on FB and at school when I picked up.

If your daughter needs a little clutch or wristlet to carry her phone and $, LouLou has cute ones for about $20 in all different colors.

Hope this helps!

Nothing at Tysons? We were there today and found tons. Got a cute dress at Nordstrom. Last year we got one at Macy's.

My DD is also 5' and thin. She wears an XS/S or a 0/2/4 depending on the dress. Since she has an A cup, many styles don't look right on her. She has to try on a ton of dresses.

The kids wear so many different styles. I would try not to stress too much and let her find something she likes and she feels good in.

NP here -- You know your response was mean, right? At our kids' school, this dress would stand out as a bit casual, yes, but it's not like the girl wearing it is fated to star in "Carrie" or anything. FWIW, my DD, a senior, has found dance dresses at many stores in the area. Francesca's is pretty reliable, but she's also had good luck at Nordstrom and Anthropologie. She is slender and tends toward more modest dresses. You can find something that's not strapless and yet has a party feeling to it -- try looking for a dress with some lace, or sparkles (in limited quantities) or with a swishy skirt. The PP who suggested a shrug was brilliant. Strappy shoes are popular, of course, but a nude wedge can also work -- and feel less precarious.

I saw this dress at Forever 21 yesterday and it's cute - looks better in person. Is it dressy enough for Homecoming though?

I think it's too casual personally.

Perfectly cute, but way too casual if the school is does a traditional homecoming.

I think it's nice! Not trashy like so many dresses I've seen.
