middle school gym uniform for girls?

My daughter's middle school says that as per county requirements, students must wear a gym uniform of knee length black shorts and a plain gray shirt.

Does anyone's child's middle school also require this? Where do you find knee length gym shorts for girls?

I had no trouble finding this for my son, but girls shorts don't seem to come this long.

Why not just buy her a pair of the same shorts? I am relatively certain in the olden days that the gym uniform I wore was unisex.

I bought my middle school daughter these men's shorts in size small. You can probably find them in boys' sizes.

Well, she was looking for something a bit less boyish, I guess. A little more fashionable? Most girls athletic shorts are either more like leggings/bike shorts (spandex so not allowed) or mesh basketball shorts (but those are too short). Shorts that go down to the knees seem really boyish.

First off, I doubt any school teacher is going to be measuring short length so I'd say middle to low thigh would also be fine. You could also do leggings under shorter mesh.
