Student planner for 6th grader

I'm checking some out on Amazon and see a few that seem decent. Anyone have any suggestions or tips on what specific features are the most helpful in a planner for middle school kids?

Here are two I'm considering.

MCPS gives them to each kid each year. That is the one everyone uses. Might want to check to see if your school does the same.

I'd hold off on purchasing one. Every school my kids have ever attended starting in MS gave them a planner on the first day. Some schools even required they use that one as it had a "Hall Pass" section that the teacher would sign when they needed to leave the classroom for the bathroom.

Fastest way to teach kids to use their planners and always bring them to class? Make it so that the hall pass to go to the bathroom was in the back. Mine forgot hers one day early on and that was enough to teach her to always, always double check for it.

OP here. I found out on Monday that the school will not be supplying them anymore, which is why I'm on the hunt.

My daughter is super organized and loves the New York Public Library Student Planner. It's available at Barnes & Noble.
