My DD just got her period but doesn't yet have hair under her arms

Very surprised by this. I thought underarm hair preceded menarche by about a year. Is this normal?

I think you aren't normal if this worries you.

You know what I'm surprised by? How many posts there are from parents about their children going through puberty and worrying about the order of things, when things will happen, etc.

It happens when it happens. It's rare that there's a problem. Why are so many parents all up in their kids' bodies?

Dear god. Can't a person just be curious about something and ask a question?

"Is this normal?" "...Because I'm just surprised."

I think you're confused... or bored tonight.

Take a look at all the puberty questions here in this forum though. It's a LOT. It's people asking strangers to guess when their kids will get to different stages of puberty. It weirds me out. I'm not an uninvolved or unconcerned parent at all but this level of involvement presented as concern seems odd to me.

I think her pediatrician would know best rather than asking complete strangers.

Of course. Because I'm really going to call her pediatrician at 10:49 at night rather than pose a question that I'm curious about on a message board that commonly deals with puberty issues.

My understanding of puberty is that underarm hair growth precedes the first period by at least one year. This was totally unexpected for me. Yes I can deal with it. No I don't think my daughter is abnormal. It's surprising to me and I wanted to see what others think. Got a problem with it?

Google will do a better job than we will on this one.

Is hair growing elsewhere, like her legs and genitals? Maybe she's just not going to have hairy underarms?

I was attacked for asking a similar question. Any question about a tween's puberty or development seems to set off a bunch of lunatics who feel that even the mere mention of a young female's development is somehow deeply suspect and must be confined to confidential discussions between a mother and her pediatrician.

I have no idea what drives such posters, other than, I guess, a deep shame and revulsion for their own bodies and an extreme discomfort with public mention of female development.

OP, I was under the impression adolescence happened in a certain order too but I guess there are outliers.

There is/was a creepy troll who seemed to get off on stories about young girls entering puberty. He would (I assume he) start threads about buds, etc. And just watch.
