| DS is 12. Needs new pants, but am having a hard time finding a good fit. Any suggestions? Gap and Old Navy regular are usually too snug, yet he swims in huskies. Wants to wear jean, so track pants are not an option. |
| Buy him a belt. |

We had to do a lot of trial and error with brands of pants. We went to Children's Place, Sears, JC Penney, Kohls, plus a bunch of others and tried on several pairs in various sizes. my son hated it, but it was the only way to find pants that fit.
In most pants we do a 10, but we ended up with an 8 husky and cinched in the waist. fit him best in the legs/butt/length. |
In the olden days, one would go up a size, and then shorten the pant legs. This still works, even in our modern times.

| Yeah, go big, get some belts, and cuff the pants. |

I recommend
Sears-Canyon River Blues Landsend and LL Bean sizing run larger H & M Husky because their clothes are European cut, their husky may work. In general, you can look for relaxed fit. |
| as someone mentioned, look for relaxed fit. |

Start with his actual measurements and just compare size charts at different stores. Some places sell men's jeans with a 28 in. length (which seems to be approximately the same inseam as a boys 12).
Skinny jeans run long, so you may be able to buy husky one size smaller. |
Aren't you so clever? Can't believe this granddaughter of two seamstresses never thought of that. That, however, doesn't solve my problem. The larger sizes are still snug. Perhaps I should have provided greater detail but assumed it was intuitively obvious that I had already tried that. |
Thanks for brand suggestions - really appreciate it |
Good insight - had no idea |
| I have always found the plus size or whatever in boys being husky hysterical. Like I just imaging a chubby siberian husky in some boys graphic tee. But you just have to go to a few places and fine the cut that works. I second trying H&M because their clothes tend to be cut differently. |
Np here, many people don't sew. I have the same problem with my son. I actually do buy a size or two up (depending on the fit) and hem. My son won't wear jeans though, so not sure what I'd do if he wanted jeans. Works pretty well with track pants though. |
| We have the same issue with DS 11. I think Gap and Old Navy jeans run tight in general. Went to Nordstrom Rack and bought straight leg Joe's Jeans (LOL!) for $20 that fit perfectly true to size. They also had Levi's regular fit which probably would have worked too. Agree with pps who suggest looking for relaxed fit/straight leg options. |
Not the OP, but this only works if the child is proportionally bigger, as in lean and short legs. Otherwise ypu go up a size, and the pants are snug in the wrong places and too long, and a lot of pants will not look right if too much is cut off the end ( think cargo pants). We buy husky and and cinch the crap out of them, |
