ESSA and Title I/II Funds - does anyone know FCPS' plans?

Anonymous
Now that the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is law, does anyone know what FCPS' plans might be for Title I and Title II funding for gifted and talented students?

I have read the Q&A piece posted by the National Association for Gifted Children but do not know FCPS specifics.

It will take time to filter down. The law has to be codified first- at the federal level, then the state will have its say and then the county can make its ddecisions based on the facts at hand.

According to the NAGC document, applications for Title I grants will begin in July 2016 and other federal grant programs will go into effect in October 2016. I would think these may include some sort of effect on the FY 2017 FCPS budget.

It is still too early for Fairfax to even figure out how to do it as NOTHING has been codified. It is insane to think that FCPS has a plan two days after the legislation was approved, when there isn't even a procedure for how to do it yet. Two days is not even enough time to properly read through the document that was actually passed- IME many things are removed or slipped in at the end and no one knows they are there until they read the final version. I am sure they are aware of it and are making plans to see what the actual requirements will be to quailify for the funding.

Education policy analyst here -- most of the Title I/II elements were not "slipped in at the end" and states/local school systems are already readying their plans to meet the federal timeline. More about these grants will likely be included in Dr. Garza's budget presentation to the School Board.
