DD is 4'3". I do not expect a huge growth spurt to take her past 5'2" ever. She will be short. I'm short. Bio Dad is short. Paternal grandparents are short.
I'd like to purchase a bike to last through middle school if possible. 20 or 24 inch? TIA |
| I think Isla bikes has a good guide for bike sizes for kids. |
Thanks! Normally, we'd take her in and have her measured. This is a surprise for under the tree. |
| If she has long legs and is a good rider is go for 24. 20 is really small. My really short kids moved to 24 inch at a young age. |
| Go for the 24" bicycle. You can adjust seat height pretty easily. But, be careful about reach (length between the seat and the handle bars). Girls tend to be shorter in the torso and longer in the legs in comparison to boys, so the bicycle may be uncomfortable if your daughter has to lean out too far to get to the handle bars. My daughter (about same size) prefers a cruiser (beach) bike to a mountain bike because she did not like to be so far forward. |
Thank you! |
| 20 is really small. It won't last very long in any case. |
My very petite 10 yr old son has a 20 inch bike. He will need the 24 inch by next year. If I were you, I'd get the 24 inch unless she is a cautious kid. She might feel more secure on the smaller bike. But you will need to buy another one in a year or two. My son tried about both sizes and the 24 inch was too big. |
