We planted a few different kinds of ornamental grasses this spring. I know I should cut them before they start growing again next spring but should I cut them now or wait until after winter?
Thanks! |
| I read in one of the home and garden magazines to do it in December. Having said that, I usually do mine in early March, because that's when I remember and have motivation. |
| I like the way they look in winter and that they are useful t wildlife. So I cut ours in March. |
| Just be sure they are cut before April, when they begin to grow. I leave mine through the winter for the birds and because they look nice. |
| We cut ours after winter but before the fresh growth starts. So like March. |
| Our neighbors have beautiful stands of grasses. They always cut them down in March. |
| Rule of thumb is to cut after St Patrick's Day. |
| OP here. Thanks all! My instinct was to wait and given this advice that is what we'll do! |

I cut mine in late summer after they bloom. By then, the ends are browning.
I may cut them again for the last mow of the season. I have liriope. |
