Gluten and Casein Free Diet for SPD

Has anyone tried this and had success? How did you get started? Any advice?

I'm not trying to flame here, I just can't think of another way to say this: there is NO science to support GFCF diets (unless the person has celiac disease). None. It's all over the place as some sort of autism cure, but honestly anything that has to be in place for a year or more to get any supposed results? Is just snake-oil.

Perhaps but there is a medical test that can be done to test to see if there is a sensitivity to gluten... improvements can be shown within a few weeks.

I agree with the snake oil comment. No science, just anecdotal "evidence" ... I think it makes some parents feel better just to have something concrete to be doing.

Well, here is an anecdote, and merely that. My stepson w/ ASD has been on a GF/CF diet for several years. We tried putting him back on gluten a few years ago and started seeing an increase in behaviors, stimming, etc. We took him off and decided maybe we didn't do it gradually enough. This week we've tried again, and after less than one week of just one or two wheat crackers a day (a flat bread sized cracker), we're again seeing an increase in behaviors & even more disrupted sleep than usual. We're going to keep trying awhile longer, but its certainly hard to ignore the correlation.
