2024 Girls Lax WCAC ISL Outlook

It’s not uncommon even if it’s not good practice.

Potomac? Coach doesn't know how to develop players. Just focuses on recruiting players who are being developed elsewhere. That's why so many of those poor players just sit and sit, while they do only so-so year after year.

Do you all get the trend? Nobody has a substitution plan. Nobody is subbing on any sort of a large scale. And nobody thinks they are not developing kids who don’t play, because they think they’re developing them at practice.

I’m not saying that is right. The best basketball player on any team from high school to the pros get substituted for some period of time so I feel like these coaches could do that. But you know what they say? You can wish in one hand and…in the other.

Hopefully for the parents whose kids are not being ”developed” their kids will play next year and then this won’t bother them so much.

GC and SR are the only ones with a sub plan. And wouldn't you know, they are the ones that are consistently the strongest in the area. They also consistently have solid JV teams.

Not a coincidence that they are also the deepest teams with 20+ club players. A lot easier to sub when there lies little talent drop off. Those two schools could field a second Varsity team that would win half their games right now.

Agree. But they also actually develop their talent. They have current starters/contributors that started on JV or were at least swing players. When you go to these schools you know there is a good chance of being on JV as a freshman and that you really have to earn your way. Better to play on JV as a freshman and get actual game time than just ride the bench on Varisty all year.

SR starts developing talent in 5th grade with the high school varsity coach training 10-11 year olds to become her future varsity. She coaches the middle school varsity team and works with promising 6-8th graders too. By the time they get to high school most of her team has been in her pipeline for years.

OMG You parents really need other hobbies.

Take a step back to what really matters in life . Hyper analyzing private high school coaching strategy seems trivial - overall health of our young women, academic and social matches with the schools they attend, and their happiness should matter most.

If you are most concerned about having your child at the winningest lacrosse program you should really think twice about your priorities on so many levels.

On lacrosse specifically - go back and read the thread on how HS programs don't matter in college lax placement.

Also, If your child is riding the bench they are not playing D1 in college so stop spending your energy on this!

Depends. Freshman? Your statement is very incorrect and there are many girls that don't play much as a freshman but then start to earn more time as they start to develop physically. Juniors and Seniors? There you have some validity but just because someone is not a top 25 D1 recruit doesn't mean they aren't d1. Many lower level d1 caliber players would start at many other schools. Not everyone is striving for top 25 schools.

While most develop in club, those with solid programs have a leg up because of their spring development.

Taylor Moreno didn't start a single game for her HS team.

Valid statement or not, the point is that you all need to spend your time volunteering or something else.

Pot, kettle, black.

We are all ridiculous because we post on DC Urban Moms. You are just ridiculous and holier than thou.

I think many miss that from public school. Private school lacrosse with talent…most freshman sit the bench for a year or two.

And yet, here you are making several comments about people making comments on a specific topic on an anonymous message board.

Maybe you should “spend your time volunteering or something else.”

No point for a freshman to be on Varsity if they aren’t starting - take a look at SR’s roster. 3 freshman on Varsity and they all start. Better to get lots of playing time on JV than riding the bench - and ANY good coach knows this!
