College Ranking Lists

The Forbes list makes a little bit more sense though these lists are subject to interpretation by the highest bidder or other factors.

I always thought Haverford was an excellent choice for my son (and not just saying that because it's on the Forbes list). Haverford is really an excellent school, and DS will definitely take advantage of their CalTech connection.

It certainly makes sense to do a comprehensive list. I've never understood why US News separates universities and LACS.

I don't understand why Haverford is #19 and Bryn Mawr is #64 when the entire course catalog is cross-listed and certain majors have to be done on one campus or the other. I guess there are other schools like this too--where they are two colleges that effectively function as one, but somehow are vastly different in the rankings when students have access to the same courses, faculty, and resources.

Why are the ranking lists so different? Pomona ranks #1 on Forbes and #4 on US News.

They have to change it up every year so that people buy the magazine every year and each touts their slightly different methodology.

Why, because LACs focus on educating undergraduates. National universities have a broader mission - undergraduates and graduates. They really are apples and oranges.

Actually that's not much of a difference in the scope of things. Number 1 and Number 35 on the other hand...

The difference is probably admission selectivity, don't you think?
