DS is a freshman in HS and I'm just starting to look into colleges and associated majors, requirements, costs, etc. I'm having a bit of sticker shock, I have saved $40K so far and plan to save more but in my mind I was thinking that all the costs together would be around $20K per year for an in state school.
So, how much are you actually paying? Don't include FA or scholarships, just what you are out of pocket for the year. |
| DC is going to an out of state college and our bill which included room and board was $19k for the first semester. Books, dorm room things and supplies were extra. |
First semester? Not first year? So the whole year is $19+$19=$38 ? |
Correct. In-state schools would be much cheaper- probably around $20-$25k per year. |
| At Clemson it's about $45,000 a year for out of state. |
| About 12K per year with scholarship. Would have been around 63K without. Very expensive. |
| $67,000. That doesn't include travel to/from. I can't even. |
| About $25k instate VA. |
| I also have a high school freshman. My question for parents of college kids is did you find that the "net price calculators" on school websites were accurate? |
| $62K. |
No. |
Nice to see we're not the only ones. Cheers. |
| Around $55k last year. OOS at a state school. Next year will be closer to $65k. |
| $60 - private SLAC. AWFUL! |
| So I'm completely right to be freaked out. |
