| What's your opinion of the 3 schools compared to each other? My daughter will go to Imagine Foundation because she has a subbing there and then go to CMIT because she as another sibling there. However, she's really into dance and I'm wondering if I should try to get her into Thomas Pullen and them for high school, see if she can get a scholarship to McNamara. I just wanted to get the thoughts of the schools and your opinion of what you would do if everything worked out in your favor? |
| I think they are three very different places. Pullen of course has emphasis on the arts, and if she's really into that, then Pullen may be the best place for her. I don't know much about Imagine, but CMIT has a very heavy STEM focus, and if she isn't interested in that, although she would receive rigorous academics, may not be the happiest she could be (not saying she wouldn't be happy, she may be happier at a place she can dance). The scholarships to BMHS are partial though, so if she really got a great dance background at Pullen, you could look to see if she could also audition in to Duke Ellington in DC. |
| Thank you....She's been dancing since she's been 3 and she loves it. She now competes for dancing so she's really into it. I was thinking about Duke but I don't live in DC so it will cost me and they don't offer scholarships since it's a charter school. I'm still thinking about what i'm going to do with her. I just received a call today she got into Imagine Foundation and she will going there next week. |

Why can't she just stay at Foundations? I'm not sure which grade she is in, but what you are contemplating does sound like a bit of school-hopping, which may (or may not) have an impact on your child. Imagine Foundations also provides an advanced/rigorous curriculum, right? The main difference is that CMIT is stem-focused. Also, in my view, unless your child is in one of the top-level classes at CMIT, the rigor and advanced focus, and teacher attention, won't be there.
Suitland High School has a performing arts program that requires an audition. That is an additional option. I may consider that school for my daughter, who is embarking on the dance competition journey herself. Good luck in whatever you decide. |
