Beauty and Fashion
Is this a total fashion faux pas? I have 3 navy suits (two with skirts, one with pants). One pair of navy shoes is finally shot. The second is KILLING my feet. Can I wear brown shoes with a navy suit? Or will I look like a totaly fashion idiot?
I never liked it. But FWIW, the What Not to Wear folks would say it's OK. Both are considered neutrals. I always thought brown and gray together were awful, but they pair those two all the time.

nice. i like brown/blue.
i understand the black/blue conflict but REFUSE to buy blue shoes just for my blue suit. yeck. |
How about some yellow flats? I love wearing my yellow shoes with navy pants that I got at Zappos.com. Works in spring, summer and fall and I get a ton of compliments whenever I wear the combination.
Wear black -- that is what men wear with their navy suits. It would be ridiculous for a man to wear leather that had been dyed blue with his navy suit. Try it out. It looks professional.
I don't like black shoes with navy for women. I wear camel colored slingbacks with my navy suits.
I often wear red shoes with navy pants.
I like camel or off white colored shoes with navy. The red could work if you balance it out with a red accessory...a purse or or shirt beneath your jacket. But dark brown doesn't seem to compliment a dark blue in my mind.

I think it's the navy suits that are a fashion issue! Yuck!

I think navy, esp very dark navy, can look great. I'm so tired of black, and gray doesn't do anything good for me.
Navy suits can be very stylish. I have one from JCrew that I always get compliments on. In spring I wear a cream/white shirt/shell and a pair of maroon patent peep toes. Yellow shoes also look nice but then cream obviously wouldn't work. I would definitely not wear black and I don't think brown really shows of a blue suit well.
I think a navy suit can be lovely, probably with red or camel shoes, or some other complementary color -- but not navy shoes, not black shoes, and not dark brown shoes. Too drab and dark.
Men in the US wear black shoes (cap toes) with navy suits. (BTW, navy is great but navy not "blue"). Brown shoes are considered fashionable but for men more of a European style ( I happen to like it). This according to my very clothes aware husband. When I worked, I had a navy suit that I wore with camel colored sling backs in the spring/summer. In the winter I wore black or tall high heeled DARK (cognac) colored boots. I think dark red shoes (sans hose) would work too, if they had a brown hue to them and were stylish. Please do not match your navy suit with a red purse/shoes. Hope this helps.
I like navy with patent sling backs in black
I also used to wear dark red shoes when I had a navy suit. But I recently got rid of my last navy suit, because it just doesn't work for me. Black isn't great near my face, either. Going forward, I'm sticking to greys and browns for my neutrals.
