Any leads on in-home daycare in NW DC?

We're expecting our first in late September and haven't seen or heard much about in-home daycare options in Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights/Tenley/AU Park. Anyone out there using this option? If so, how did you conduct your research? If not, what made you reject this option?

would love to hear people's experience on this

We bring our 16 months old son to an in-home day care in Glover park. We have been very happy so far.

Can you tell me more about the in-home day care in Glover PArk. May be interested for our 15 month old. How many kids are there? What are the ages? How much is it per week?

We will be needing care for our infant in March 2010, preferably in AU/Glover Park/Tenlely neighborhoods. Anyone need a nanny share for around that time? please email me at mcastromikoy@gmail.com

Our childcare provider has an open slot in Glover Park. Elizabeth Wilson is originally from France, but she has been in the US for years. She is loving and caring and considers herself to be the children's French grandmother. She has been providing childcare for years, and her clients tend to start care when their children are babies and stay until it's time for preschool. I have absolutely no worries when I drop off our 5 month old, and the baby comes back to me well rested and very happy. When I chat with her on the porch, the baby looks up at her lovingly, which about says it all!! Plus, I love the fact that she's immersed in beautiful well-spoeken French all day.

She can discuss rates with you, but it is less expensive than a true nanny situation, and you don't have to pay taxes for her service, as she’s not your household employee. Elizabeth's number is 202.333.5307. She can provide you with references. We love her.

When I was looking I had a really bad impression of Elizabeth Wilson, but really liked Tara Dextraze (off Military and Nebraska) who, unlike Elizabeth in all the following areas, was licensed, had a separate area of the house for the children, very child-friendly space, worked with an assistant, had an outdoor play area and took the kids outside regularly, and was really warm and friendly. Good luck - there isn't much out there certainly.

I'm so sorry you had a bad impression. Honestly, I have a very different take on Elizabeth. I was happy because I didn't want my infant taken out and about, or to the park with someone who is responsible for more than one kid. Elizabeth's space is very calm and the kids play nicely. She takes her business very seriously and our daughter adores her. BUT, it is important that you click with your care provider or you won't be comfortable with the situation. As Elizabeth told me - it is her job to make sure that I feel OK leaving our daughter, and to do that she gives her lots of love throughout the day. And I can tell this happens by the way my daughter reacts with Elizabeth. It's super cute!!

9/25 15:32 poster here.

To be clear, we didn't end up going with Tara Dextraze either. We are at a center and are very happy there. If we had done in-home, we would have happily gone with Tara. Her email address is tdextraze@hotmail.com.
