What elementary school in DC is the strongest academically?

Anonymous
We have a choice between a number of schools for our child for PK and are struggling with the decision. W prefer different schools that we are having a tough time figuring out which has the stronger academics by the time we get to the later elementary school grades. Any one have any insights?

When you say you have a number of schools to choose from for PK, how is that possible when you're only in bound for one school? The rest are OOB applications, which are purely luck of the draw. This is, of course, if you're only referring to DCPS...Even w/private & charter, they are all quite competitive. How many schools were you accepted to? If you're trying to decide between those, you should list them for different feedback.

Wow... seriously... I agree with PP.

Pay attention to the forum you're in!

Private school parents can often get into 4-5 schools (although many don't).

Beauvoir.

Many parents feel the need to hire tutors at Beauvoir

They are all great schools; it really depends on your child. I think St. Pats and WES would be excellent choices!!

Beauvoirs' math program is terrible. Lots of parents have complained but so far, no changes have been made by staff/head. If you care to listen to gossip, which most everything on this board is, it is being said by "lots of people" that the StA teachers are very unhappy with the lack of math prep/ level of work of the Beauvoir boys. Boys coming in from other schools are much further along. Have no idea what the NCSteachers think of B girls mathematical abilities/level.

Did you not attend either of the two coffees this year at which the focus of discussion was the math curriculum? At one of them the entire time was composed of faculty members discussing ways the math curriculum is enhanced and implemented at each level and what new techniques are being used and evaluated. If you missed it I think they have made DVDs of the presentations available for borrowing- not sure where you would go to get one.
