I am hating this trend of cardigans and suit jackets that button or tie only at the top leaving my flabby baby belly exposed. Would love recommendations of work tops that hide the belly. Thanks!

I'm still only 6 months, so I haven't had to hide a huge belly yet, but these are my impressions:
I think anything fitted or structured only emphasizes the belly. Ponchos do a good job. I found some nice ponchos, new with tags, on Ebay. BCBG and Sweet Pea are my favorite brands. Just make sure they are long enough. Here is a pic of Victoria Beckham wearing one: http://showbiz.sky.com/The-Beckham-Bumps/2 Cardiwraps also work well. http://www.sonyamadden.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=5 |
Could you clear up whether this is a post-baby belly or you are pregnant now?
Gap, Anthropologie and JCrew have some very flowy, fluttery tops that are very loose. There are versions of the same tops at Target for less. I use these when I am still hiding the post baby belly. I have also done a greta tshirt one size larger with a nice cardigan.
Whatever you do - stay away from empire waist shirts. They make every belly look pregnant.
Why would you want to hide your baby belly?

I think OP is post partum, since a belly with a baby still in it is anything but flabby...

if u are post partum, yummie tummie. Sucks everything in.
OP here. Sorry for the confusion. I'm not talking about hiding a pregnant belly. I'm talking about my post-partum belly. After two pregnancies, it's quite flabby, which is noticeable in very tight tops. But, as a PP noted, the empire waists just make me look pregnant!

SPANKS!!!
And I think stay away from empire-waist or other maternity-like shirts. I actually found that tunics (best are tory burch but so pricey) are great, as are classic button down. Structured fit with straight lines is better than anything clingy (like that UBIQUITOUS fabric around these days...that jersey stuff. so unforgiving!) |

caftans and tunics!
For work, though, tunics are too casual and you said for work, right? A good structured 3 button jacket is the best thing. Ever watch "What not to Wear"? You will see how again and again they take a chubby or flabby woman, put her in a structured jacket and, wow... so much better! Also, a sheath dress in a stiffer fabric, like lined linen or a tweed in winter, is a good look for camoflaging a flabby tummy. For casual friday a blouse with a straight hem that you can wear untucked but still look more polished, and ditto under a jacket for more formal days or when you have a meeting. For casual I agree that tunics are fantastic but always pair them with slim fitting bottoms...
