We have a lot of deer near our house (we live near Wheaton Regional Park) and, walking around our neighborhood, see that daffodils are some of the only flowers the deer don't eat.
Where can we get daffodils at a reasonable price? And when should we plant them? TIA! |

You can get them from any garden store or from Home Depot, but they won't sell them until fall.
Late fall is the time to plant them, they need a chilling period --winter -- before they will bloom. So it is too late this year, but you can plant this fall for next spring. |

Costco, for large quantities.
Brent and Becky's bulbs in Virginia have an awesome selection of daffodils. |
| for online go to McClure & Zimmerman, extensive list of bulbs |

I wouldn't buy them until the fall. Sometimes bulbs get moldy etc.
Try planting fothergilla or hellebores, e.g.: https://extension.umd.edu/tags/deer-resistant |
| NP- this is a dumb question but I want to plant these for next fall. Our yard guy is going to do a spring cleanup for us again, and he puts down that weed block netting with mulch around shrubs. I love that for summer and our shrubs all flower but we really need something blooming in the spring. How do I plant bulbs and work with that netting? |
| The netting will block the bulbs from coming up. Sorry. I got rid of it when I moved in -- or cut it from the places that I wanted bulbs. |
| The weed block will hold down the bulb shoots. Decide where you want to plant bulbs and leave those places uncovered. |
| Thanks! I will cut some strategic holes. |
| What happens if you plant them now? Will they just not bloom until next spring. I have a bag leftover from last fall that isn't moldy. I'd like to just them plant them now even if they won't bloom until next spring. |
| Go ahead and plant. If the bulbs grow and survive the winter they will flower next spring. |
