Scalloped concrete paver edging in vegetable garden - EEK! Is this toxic?

Anonymous
I used some scalloped concrete pavers for edging on one side of my garden. Then I thought, could it be toxic? Could it have lead paint? I have no idea. What are your thoughts? My mom said she doubts they would sell garden edging made with lead paint in it. . .

Here's a pic of what I mean:

You do know that lead paint has been illegal to sell since 1978, right?

That hasn't stopped the chinese from selling things with lead paint on them in everything from children's toys to yes, gardening supplies.

+1. Anything from China can be toxic. Check out the lumber liquidators 60 minutes report! They have dangerously high levels of formaldehyde. http://www.forbes.com/fdc/welcome_mjx.shtml

I haven't read anything that would indicate a problem with those and have read a lot about lead hazards and gardening. Some kinds of treated wood aren't great, though (not lead but something else). Just don't let your kids chew on the edgers you have, they might break a tooth!

No problem, and no problem with treated wood either.

That's a lingering myth b/c they used to treat wood with arsenic. No longer.
