Kenmoor Middle School

Are there any parents that have experience with this school? Are you happy? How are teachers? Principal? Students? How is the program? Are parents happy with administration?

Unsure my daughter is zoned for the school for TAG. I would like to know about behavior i have heard academics are solid but do not recall if there test scores or parent reviews were good or not.

I heard TAG program is excellent but the test scores are for the entire school and not great

Is Kenmoore middle TAG program in a certain section of the school or is it specific classes that children attend when they rotate for middle school.

Any Kenmoor parents out there? My daughter will attend their TAG program next year and just wondering what is your opinion on program and the school as a whole?

The TAG program is a separate program within the middle school. I believe there are 5 classes of 6th graders in the TAG program. Then they move up to become 5 classes in 7th grade and 5 classes in 8th grade. When my son attended, there were no non-TAG identified 6th grade students at the school, but there were many in 7th and 8th grade.

Test scores reported combine all students, not just those in the TAG program. Since 6th grade is just TAG students (I believe) you can kind of see the results of testing just for TAG students by looking at those test scores. However, I believe that they come from many different elementary schools who carry some of the responsibility for preparation!

Here are results for 6th grade Math PARCC in 2015: (130 6th grade students)

http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/ParccResults.aspx?PV=71:6:16:1330:3:N:0:13:1:1:0:1:1:2:3

Score of 5: 0% (exceeds standards)

Score of 4: 32% (met standards) 41 students (0 were SPED)

Score of 3: 39% (approaching standards) 50 students (2 Were SPED)

Score of 2: 16 % (partially met) 21 students (9 were SPED)

Score of 1: 13% (not met) 17 students (15 were SPED)

Those low scores of 1 and 2 are surprising to me in a TAG identified population. Looking here, you can break down those scores and see the number of 1s and 2s that were identified as SPED:

http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/ParccResults.aspx?PV=71:6:16:1330:3:N:0:13:2:1:0:1:1:2:3

The lack of Advanced (level 5) scores is also surprising, however only 130 students took the math grade 6 PARCC which 155 students took the reading Grade 6 PARCC. I wonder if the advanced math class (25 students) took the 7th grade PARCC instead or something?

For Grade 6 English PARCC the results are here: out of 155 students

http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/ParccResults.aspx?PV=71:6:16:1330:3:N:0:13:1:1:0:1:1:2:3

Score of 5: 10% (Exceeds standards) 16 students (0 were SPED)

Score of 4: 48% (met standards) 74 students (0 were SPED)

Score of 3: 14% (approaching standards) 21 students (2 were SPED)

Score of 2: 15 % (partially met) 23 students (9 were SPED)

Score of 1: 14% (not met) 21 students (15 were SPED)

By comparison here are the PARCC results for the whole county.

Math Grade 6:

Score 5: 0
Score 4: 12 %
Score 3: 27 %
Score 2 : 38 %
Score : 22 %

English:

http://reportcard.msde.maryland.gov/ParccResults.aspx?PV=71:6:16:AAAA:1:N:0:13:1:1:0:1:1:2:3

Score5: 0%
Score4: 24%
Score3: 30%
Score2: 27%
Score1: 17%

It's harder to see the result of the TAG program by 8th grade because all the scores are reported as one school.

However you can see that, for example, 7% of students scored a level 5 on the English grade 8 PARCC, whereas for the county as a whole 0% did.
And MANY students scored a level 4 (I think 44% of the school which could be most of the TAG students.)

As for actual experience with the school, my kids went and both liked the TAG program very much. I feel it prepared them well for high school.

This year all the incoming TAG kids at Kenmoor are coming in from TAG ES magnets (Glenarden Woods, Highland Park, Capitol Heights and Heather Hills). No one got in via the lottery process

Thanks for the information in regards to Kenmoor Middle School. Many of her friends parents are not going to send their kids to the school and i was wondering if the school had a bad reputation or not. i appreciate this information i feel a little better in regards to keeping her in PG TAG.

What middle schools are they choosing instead?

The TAG program certainly doesn't have a bad reputation.

Well, I think maybe standards for entering the TAG program should be raised a bit, if so many TAG identified students in middle school are scoring level 1 and 2 on the PARCC.

The other parents are choosing to put children in the lottery for charter schools such as CMIT and College Park Academy or private. They feel that because of the location there may be behavior problems at the school. Maybe if they visit the TAG program at Kenmoor they will change there minds. Many want Greenbelt Middle however, this is boundary only.

LOL their idiots and I hope they stay away from the school

why would you say they are idiots? is it due to their comment or the fact they feel charter is better than TAG at Kenmoor.
