Buying runner for stairs before deciding paint color

I need to get a runner for the stairs in a house we just bought. I'm thinking of something in a solid neutral. Right now the entry and stairway walls are yellow but I'm planning to paint. I haven't decided whether to go with sand, grey, or white, and I'm a little concerned about picking out a runner color that could work with all three of those paint color categories. Any thoughts? Any specific runner recommendations?

Why not try to find an accent runner you love and then choose a paint color that will work with it?
