Political Discussion
| I find it odd that all of the places that are gunning for these trains are elsewhere. Even UPstate NY is trying to get one. What about a Richmond, DC, Baltimore, Philly line? |
| Doesn't the Acela high speed train already run DC - Boston? |

I was curious about this. When I worked in Richmond and commuted from DC I was so eager for the high speed train from Richmond to DC that the state was talking about for years. I figured the state legislators may not care about NoVa's transportation problems but they're willing to shell out when it's a matter of them getting to DC faster.
But I started working in DC 6 years ago and forgot about it. Nothing seems to have happened besides a few hearings. I wonder if there is any way it might be resurrected? |
I mean real high speed, like the bullet train. |
If my memory serves me correctly, I thought Acela really wasn't as popular or profitable as it was on paper. Given that it has taken years for metro and the surrounding county (and federal) gov'ts to debate the merits of adding the purple line, I wouldn't hold much hope that there is a strong enough (or loud enough) demand for a super-duper high speed train (especially with acela being available even if not quite ideal). |
| I would be in NYC every month, just to shop and walk around if I could get there in 1 hour. I would be in FL 4 times a year if I could get there by high speed train in 4-5 hours. |
