| Anyone with an AAP student choose Herndon Middle over Hughes recently or vice versa? Why? Thanks. |
|
I have been planning to send DC to Hughes for AAP, but I attended both curriculum/parent nights to have info from both schools to decide. I do think Hughes is slightly the better choice, and it's where DC will go, but to be honest, I wasn't at all excited after parent night at Hughes. The AAP program seems just okay, the school officials who spoke were disappointing.
Any other parents want to chime in? I'm curious what other people thought. |
| My friend said the same thing about Hughes. She was not impressed with their presentation. Was the presentation you attended for AAP students only? If so, I wonder if they're trying to keep kids in their own base school. Do you know if Herndon is planning to keep AAP students together in honors classes? Hughes seems to have a lot more academically challenging clubs, though. |
How were school official disappointing? Was it a lack of knowledge or enthusiasm? |
| My son is in 7 th grade AAP at Hughes. We've been very happy. He's been adequately challenged. He really likes the Afterschool options, and is having a great time participating in the play. |
My friends who attended their middle school orientation for AAP seemed to come back feeling such enthusiasm from the teachers and administrators, I just didn't get any of that. My impression from the person leading the AAP/Honors session (included honors in same group) was just that she was saying what she thought parents wanted to hear, a bunch of stuff about how our kids are smart and how the school really tries to challenge them, and then pretty much repeated what you could read on the website about what classes are what. There were no teachers who spoke, or any mention of the teachers. |
