Why spend $14k on a used Toyota if I can get a new Jetta for $18k?

I love my old Passat - so peppy and fun to drive. It has low mileage, too. But every repair for the last several years has been $1000 a pop.

I've had two Passats and LOVED them, until I didn't. The last straw was when two local dealers couldn't fix my car, and wanted me to pay by the hour for them to troubleshoot. The issue was a 5 minute, less than $20 fix.

Not sure what people here are talking about. My 13 years old Jetta has 250k miles on it and still running strong.
It is by far the most reliable car I have ever owned. My previous Civic started agonizing at 150k miles. Never Honda again.

Because women only care about how they look, usually some other sucker (i.e. a man ) is paying for the repairs.

Because that new Jetta will lose significant value in the first week you own it. That Toyota will hold its value nicely. Or buy a new Toyota for a little more and have it still be worth 14k in a few years.

Another VW hater here. Got a Jetta after college- don’t do it!
