retaking the CoGAT... scoring question

Anonymous
I had my child retake the CoGAT for a number of reasons. DC's score decreased 2 points from previous year. Are they administered the same test in upper grades (I realize it isn't exactly the same, for testing validity)? I'm trying to get a sense of whether this is a normal variance in scoring, or something else.

2 points is within the variance score.

I'm sure they have a different test for each grade. In addition, your child's score is relative to other children the same age as them.

Two points is nothing. That's actually an amazingly close score. The test changes significantly from second to third grade. K-2 cogat test is picture based and untimed, third grade on is words and numbers, timed.

my understanding that it there are different tests per grade level so your DCs results point to consistency vs variance. Your AART should be able to clarify which test your DC took - 2 pts (or more) could be accounted for w/ just one question.

Yes--It sounds like your child's score is pretty accurate, since his/her second score was so close to the first score.
