Trimming the bushes evenly

Anonymous
New homeowner here. Dh and I are excited to do our own mowing and trimming but we have a lot of bushes that need trimming. I tried to do it with shears but of course it's hard to get it looking level. I priced electric saw trimmers at Home Depot and they seemed expensive (plus not so safe to have with little kids around, even though it would be locked in a shed). Is there a product or method I'm missing? I'd love to get a clean look and don't want to hire a service. Thanks.

Can you post or link to some pictures of what the "clean look" you want looks like?

I didn't see the forum name, and I thought this was about trimming lady parts.

HA! OP here. I will look for a picture. Basically, I like the clean, flat, sculpted look of bushes that the landscapers make. But they have chainsaws. When I try to sculpt or shoe the bushes myself (not into shapes, just into a clean look), all the branches are of slightly different heights. I'm not looking for a meticulous look, just an easier way to give the shrubs and bushes and uniformed shape look. I'm not sure that makes sense.

Do you know what kind of shrubs you have? Some do not take kindly to that sort of trimming.
