I may break down and get my DD a crayfish for her birthday. I'd probably get it through a mail-order site because there is a blue variety. Anyways the one she had a few years ago, a cast-off from a school--we just put in a plastic bowl with a rock and fed it cat food, and it did fine. But I can't help think it needs a little more atmosphere than this. So I'd like to go somewhere with my DD where someone can really help me and there is a lot of supplies to choose from. (or ideally, blue crayfish to choose from but that may be asking too much)
Does anyone have any recommendations? We're in NoVa. Thank you! |
| House of Tropicals, Glen Burnie, MD. Worth the drive. |

bam! so fast, PP! Thank you!
Will keep checking back for more replies. |
| Yeah, I just know that area. May be some good ones closer to you. |
| We ordered a blue crayfish for our Cichlid tank from Dr Foster and Smith. It was a thing of beauty and very healthy. |
| Congressional Aquarium in Congressional Plaza on Rockville Pike. Bit of a drive for you though. |
We go there every so often, just to look at the fish! They do seem quite knowledgeable and professional. Lots of aquariums, plants, rocks, assorted decorations, to choose from. Fish, obviously. Crayfish, but perhaps not the blue variety. |
| Any suggestions for northern VA? |

Tropical Lagoon in Silver Spring is excellent: http://www.tropicallagoon.com/
You'd miss it if you blinked, but now that we know where it is, we'd never go elsewhere. Great service, the staff is very knowledgeable, and they can order whatever they might not have in stock. Definitely call them! |
I think all the fish tank folks in VA are on vacation. Bump after the holiday and see what happens. |
Did the crayfish catch the Cichlids when they swam by and pick the carcases to the bone? Despite being well fed that's what ours did. Instinct I guess. |
+1000, love them, yeah its a drive for you, but they are a block off of the beltway, so it actually might not be so bad |
