Does gender matter when choosing a tester?

Anonymous
Just wondering what people's experience of this has been in terms of testing for late 3 y/o, early 4 y/o children. Did you find that having a tester of the opposite sex or the same sex was helpful?

I have a 3 y/o dd who will be doing testing in August and am just trying to choose from among the many - she's sociable but slow to warm up sometimes, strong-willed but not defiant particularly, and kind of "flirtatious" in a non-sexual sense with men more so than women but friendly to both genders.

I have looked at the archives on this, but didn't see it covered specifically along these lines.

Thanks for your feedback and any recommendations of people with whom you have had a particularly good experience.

My daughter had a male and he was wonderful with her. He asked her about princesses and everything. I actually think it was better as all of her daycare teachers are women so she was just so taken with this "big man boy who wanted to play with her". He also told us he has a daughter and you could see how nurturing and patient he is as a person, not just as a professional psychologist.

Would you mind sharing the name of your tester? Thanks!

Thanks so much! I recognize his name from my review of the archives.

Would love to hear from any other parents of dd's about their experiences with testers and whether they felt that the gender of the tester had any impact on the experience.

Wow. You're serious? Your daughter will be tested in August -- first, you know this already -- and second, you're essentially trying to game the results through a thought-out, calculated choice of your tester's gender.

I'm not the OP, but what's wrong with trying to choose a tester who will best interact with your DC? Give her a break.

To 07:39, What's wrong with expressing my opinion about seven months' advance planning/research about a 3-year old's tester? Give ME a break. The neuroses inherent in these types of anecdotes is remarkable.

If you can't say something nice, or at least something productive, then try keeping any judgmental thoughts to yourself. Not every opinion needs to be posted here.

Let's maintain civility on this board, and not be judgmental about the concerns that other parents have for their DCs, even if they differ from yours. OP, best of luck with your daughter's testing.

To 9:07, I was responding to your comment that she was trying to "game the results," which was uncalled for.

OP here. Thank you, pp. I too fail to see how it's "gaming" the system by gathering information about testers and people's experience with them to try to select a tester who would be a good fit with my child.

Not sure why you're so dismissive of OP's concerns. Gender had a big impact on us in this regard. OP, go with your gut about which situation will allow your child to focus and be serious.

OP here - would you mind elaborating more on what kind of an impact it had? Thanks so much.
