| What is the minimum 7th grade GPA for a student thinking about taking the TJ admissions exam? |
|
there isn't one?
but generally speaking, most kids who get into TJ have all A's or close to it in middle school -- and certainly all A's in math and science. |
| There is no minimum GPA to take the exam. |
| The child should have As in Math and Science for the whole year. Straight As in everything cannot hurt. This year the Admissions process apparently considered all grades from 7th grade. Those we know who got in had straight As all the way through (Middle School publishes lists of kids getting straight As each quarter). |
| Actually, if your kid is a good writer and can tell the admissions office what they want to hear on the essay and the SIS, your kid can have a low GPA (minimum or slightly over minimum) and be admitted over kids with 4.0 GPA. Seen it happen over and over. |
|
When my child was in middle school, the school held a ceremony for all the kids who got straight As each quarter. My child earned all As every quarter, so I was present for quite a few of these assemblies plus the end of year awards ceremony. I will say that for my child's year group, the kids who went on to TJ were also present. Kids who get As in every subject have shown the ability to work hard and to learn quickly, great attributes for a TJ student to have.

| How many kids in each grade get all A's? Would it be possible compare and say that a child who gets 75% 4's and 25% 3's in elementary (5th grade) would get A's if he/she works at the same level? |
Ridiculous question!!!!! |
+1 Is this even a serious question? |
| There is no minimum GPA. My son was earning a "C" in 8th grade science when he was accepted to TJ, and he is a perfect fit. The admissions office does a good job there, in spite of The Washington Post's many articles to the contrary. |
So how he is he a "perfect fit"? Shouldn't he have a passion for and excel in math and science? |
| I doubt that anyone with a C final grade in 8th grade science got accepted to TJ. Perhaps on one test or for one quarter. |
Are grades the only measure of excellence? |
| A few Cs should not matter since it is a holistic review. |
| You have to meet certain requirements to apply. At least a 3.0 average. |
