Need a Skilled Painter for Nursery Stripes

Anonymous
My husband and I are throwing in the towel on painting the nursery for our first child, expected in August. We're seeking recommendations for a skilled painter who can handle stripes. We don't want to bring in a painting company who subcontracts out to generally skilled laborers. We want to find a true painter, someone who has experience with specialized painting techniques and can easily handle stripes.

We're located in Chevy Chase, DC. Timeframe - next 4 weeks.

Any recommendations?

You will hate those stripes in a year. Just paint it normally.

Stripes aren't that hard. Put long strips of painter's tape down and paint between. Any competent professional painter can handle stripes. If you have to question whether your painter can handle stripes, then you should probably find someone else.

Oh, come on. She doesn't HAVE someone else. She is specifically looking for someone who can handle stripes. It isn't a crazy request. Sorry, OP, we did all our own painting (not well, and no stripes) so I have no recommendations. But I like stripes in a kid's room, so go for it.

Could you just get decals and apply them? I know you don't want to hear this, but you will get tired of stripes within the year.

+1 - you will be doing a LOT of staring at those walls, day and night. After not too long of a time, your eyes will start to cross with the stripes as your view. Just paint all one color. You will thank those of us giving that advice. Stripes look ADORABLE in magazines, precisely because you do not have to see them for more than a few minutes.

We used the decals and they look awesome. Plus, they're pretty easy to do yourself (with the help of your husband...)

Cool. Except OP was not asking for opinions on her decorating choices.

OP - I would also check in with the design person at paint stores, they probably know a bunch of folks who do this kind of work. And it wouldn't need to be an artist, a good painter could handle it just fine.

Just use a level to put up painters tape and paint. Not hard. Did you try this? You said you and DH threw in the towel.

OP, I don't usually weigh in much on home decor threads but as someone with a baby, I'll have to agree with the aesthetic of stripes messing with your head in the middle of the night. If you do decide to go with stripes, almost everybody can handle it. Start by looking at Angie'e list or checkbook.

We had stripes in our old house and I loved them. OP - any painter should be able to do stripes. They're not difficult.
