We are currently considering moving our 2.5 yo twins to the Julia Brown Montessori School in Laurel. Anyone have any experience? We did a tour and spoke with the director and there were a lot of things we liked, but I'm curious if anyone has any direct experience there. I know it's a long shot as there aren't that many northern-PG and Howard County folks here, but just thought I'd give it a shot. |
Google the reviews. They are mixed as are most programs but some of what was said was very concerning |
We did the one in Olney and liked it very much. Gave our child a very good foundation for moving to public later on. Obviously it depends on the people at each facility, but we were pleased. |
Our daughter attended from Pre-K to 2nd grade and we loved it. We felt very secure in her safety and was impressed with her reading aptitude. She got into a specialty school for this upcoming school year and that is the reason that we did not re-enroll for the 2013-2014 year. Our son currently attends too. We also like Ms. Farmer who is the current administrator. She is very accommodating and responsive. The key for any school is to ask questions when you visit for parent teacher conferences, go to the observation sessions and ask your child questions about their experience. They have a very nice summer program too. They offer a nominal discount for the second child. |
Ms. Farmer was the administrator at the Olney location when we were there and I was also impressed with her. |
OP here. Thank you very much for this response. It confirms some of our thoughts from when we toured the facility. One of our twins at times has attention issues and we are hoping that the Montessori method where the child gets to choose what interests them to learn about will encourage him to learn naturally the way his attention focuses so that he learns more easily. I appreciate you taking the time to write this. |
