Other than idealist, what other sources are out there for non profit jobs and NGOs?
I typically check craigslist, simplyhired, wash post, indeed, idealist, and monster. I also search for organizations through google to apply directly. I am an entry-mid level candidate with a masters degree in criminology seeking to work in the areas of women's/children's issues, human trafficking, human rights, and/or victim's services. I don't mind going in at the ground floor if it is a cause I am passionate about. I cannot afford to volunteer my way in as I do need some form of income being new to the area and unemployed. |
| unfortunately there are many many many people with similar interests and passions, but there are not many jobs or $$ to be had there. expand your circles of interest and realize that if you do end up in these areas you've listed, you will be working long, hard hours for very little pay. |

I'd say to also look at county govt jobs to start off- easier to jump between public and ngo sector if you have experience in either of them.
I am in the process of putting in time at a job now that is a little bit dead end because I know its good to get the experience away from private sector (which I came from) for my next job search |
