How long should it take to litter train kitten

Anonymous
I adopted kitten and it is hiding its poo and pee everywhere but in litter. This AM it held it in until opened the door to the room where it's staying. I've run the paws through the litter, I got the same litter from the actual shelter.. What gives?
I've been off so I could spend these days adjusting but I'm afraid this is a bad fit.
I've never had a kitten, cat, not dog behave like this. Of course they've had accidents or gotten sick but just ignoring the box.
And yes, I've kept the box clean.

Wow. My cats were immediate. There really was no training. They just did it.

Is the box easy to get to? My cats won't jump gates to get to the box and they will not go in the box if I have a top on the box. It has to be an open box.

Put the poo in the box and show the kitty that's where she goes. Also don't scold her when u put her in the box. Put her food near the box (a few feet away not right next to it) so she knows its her area.

Try a bag of kitten attract litter. They have it at petco/Petsmart. Maybe the texture of the current litter doesn't work for her. Kitten Attract has herbs that the kitties like and the litter is soft and fine and gentle on small paws.

Make sure you are cleaning all of her accident spots with Natures Miracle. If she keeps smelling her old urine she will remark there.

Where did you adopt from? Have you alerted them to the problem? What do they suggest?

Yes, ask the place you adopted from. When our cats came home, they were not trained and it took a few days-looong days. But they learned.

DO NOT put the litter near the food, kitties hate that.

If you live in a large home, you may need to put a box on each floor until kitty is older and has more control. Ditto about accessible and use the miracle stuff, over and over, it can take awhile.

Kitty is hiding poo cos kitty knows its to be hidden away.
