| I just received an offer for a great job in-house as a mid-level corporate counsel. It's a bit lower than I was expecting at $120k with a performance-based bonus available. Is this typical, high, or low? |
OP here. Forgot to mention, it's a Fortune 500 company. |
| based on my DH's in-house experience, this is typical. down the road your bonuses may be amazing, though…usually my DH's bonus doubles or triples his salary. |
| Where is the company/your potential position located? |
| How many years experience do you have? |
|
i have 7 years experience, and the company is national, but this office is in Arlington.
My potential bonus is capped 20% of my salary if i meet targets. Not great. |
| Sounds average. In house bonuses have been shrinking for years. |
| How much do you make now? Can you afford to take a cut? Is it more family friendly (ie- do you have children?) How long is your commute now? |
Don't forget to look at benefits. And the base seems a little low to me. |
| Low. 170's plus 15 to 25 percent bonus is typical. |
|
I'm a 7th year associate at a law firm and make over $200k now. The benefits are OK--401k matching and a small profit sharing into the 401k. The work life balance should be better, the commute about the same.
I haven't seen salaries in the 170s anywhere.... but I'd love one of those positions. Thanks for everyone's thoughts. |
| Did they give you any indication on what you can expect in terms of annual raises? |
| Sounds right. |
| Sounds low. I'd expect to be above $150k at least. |
| DH is a junior level in house attorney (4yrs exp when hired) and makes 70k pus bonus and awesome benefits. Low base but other stuff makes up for it. |
