Hi,
I would like to try and style my hair a little differently and I was wondering if any one could recommend a curl activating cream or had any other tips. My hair after a wash can be pretty wavy but goes flat pretty fast too. I would prefer not to use curlers or a curling iron, I just want my natural curls to hold through the end of the day. Any suggestions? Do I use a mousse, spray or cream? Are products that are geared for curly hair mean that they tame and control curl or create curl? As you can probably tell I am pretty clueless about hair style products! Thanks in advance. |

If you have "caucasian" wavy hair, you could go with an extremely super light weight leave in conditioner
Paul Mitchell makes good ones. It will keep frizz down--yet not too much build up on hair to make it look dirty. If you have african Am curly hair and you are seriously coming on this site asking for a curl activator--then i believe this post is a fake troll trying to pretend this is 1983. For realz, stop it. |

Aveda's Be Curly Curl Enhancer is a good product for helping curls maintain some cohesion. It doesn't really have any hold. I use the whole line (shampoo, conditioner, curl enhancer, that stuff in the little brown container that re-activates curls a little once hair is dry. My own hair is rather coarse and easily frizzes, so keeping the curls together keeps things a lot smoother.
I didn't understand PP's African-American comment or how any of this would be troll material. |
| 22:40 again: I know Profound also has a range of curl-activating products. While I haven't used those, the Profound products I have used have been really nice. |
| I've heard Fredic Fakaii has a good curling shampoo and cream. |
| I have some curl in my hair (Caucasian) that requires "product" to bring it out. I've started using Kerastase Oleo Curl creme after washing/conditioning my hair. Couple of recommendations: condition well. With curls, you really need to condition well, or you get frizz. Also, do not wrap your hair in a towel after showering - just blot it with a towel at leave it fairly wet. Add the product and let your hair air dry, keeping your hands out of it. The more you fuss and scrunch, the less defined your curls will be. I hate the hair dryer, and frankly don't have the time, but if you do dry with a dryer, use a diffuser and again, avoid "scrunching". |
| Hey, coarse/ curly 22:40 here- scrunching helps *my* curls! Drying does not, unless my stylist does it with a diffuser, a lot of painstaking shaping, and holding products! |

OP here,
Thanks you all for the suggestions. I am of mixed heritage, Asian & Cuacasian. I'll try out you suggestion. Thanks again! |
| I recommend Curlwise by Redken. You can get it at salons. I too have wavy hair but have been straightening it for several years. Last week when I went to my hairdresser, I had her put layers in my hair. Now all I do is wash my hair each morning, and apply Curlwise cream. Do not dry your hair with a blow dryer - just let it dry naturally and keep "scrunching" it to create the curls. Mine looks great and it's so easy! |

I either use a light clear gel (Diva Arc Angell) or AG: Recoil in my hair (which sounds similar to yours).
