DH owned up to being with one when on a business trip. This was before marriage. Before we had ever met. I'm still beside myself. He says it is much more common than I can imagine, especially in the Internet age. Say it ain't so. Men out there, is there even a sliver of truth to this? Were you single at the time? How often? Protected or not?!

I know a few married men do it at my office when they go on travel. One guy is so gross he sometimes goes for lunch time massages with a happy ending.

I only know these things because I'm the only woman at my office and it is like I work in a men's locker room.

No. I know one guy - always a bit weird when it came to women - who has slept with a bunch of prostitutes, but I would be very surprised if many of my other friends ever have.

I don't think it is common, or normal. Maybe if you are fifty and live alone, but for most guys if you are that desperate you can find someone willing to hook up without being paid.

It's more common than you think. I've visited pros when I was single, attached and married. 100% condom.

I'm a man and would never pay for sex, but I can tell you that it is much more common than women think. It is not exactly something that men talk about with their wives or girlfriends. It pretty much falls under bros before hos category.

True. But my buddies and I know a lot of unflattering things about one another. It seems highly unlikely that my friends would have used a prostitute and never mentioned to me. Possible, certainly; but based on how we interact with each other, unlikely.

DH here: I think it is relatively unusual for men to visit prostitutes, and my guess is that a small percentage of men account for the vast majority of such visits. Having said that, I think you should not be too hard on him for a one-time thing he fessed up to. We all make mistakes from time to time.

I know one of my husband's friends has absolutely slept with multiple expensive prostitutes in his 20s. From what I can tell, he wanted to get some sexual experience because he never found anyone to hook up with him until either late college or after college. There was also a guy in college who talked about sleeping with prostitutes while he traveled to SE Asia.

Well yeah, clearly men do this; there wouldn't be so many prostitutes if there weren't demand. I just suspect that a relatively small number of men (typically not in the DCUM demographic) account for a large percentage of all visits.
