How is the selection for 5th grade AAP students to attend 6th grade math is determined in your school? Is it through a single test or a multiple criteria's are evaulated.
|
| AAP students are a year ahead in math, so all Level IV students at our school are in 6th grade math (or higher). |
| Question should have been ' how are the kids selected from 5th grade AAP to attend 7th grade math taught in 6th grade class. |
| If they took 6th grade math in 5th grade they take 7th grade math in 6th grade. However this assumes they got good grades (or numbers) in the fifth grade and they took and passed the 6th grade math sol. |
The half dozen kids in my kids AAP grade are just wickedly smart in math. Some of them do Kumon type classes; most of them don't. I think they have been going up a grade since at least 4th grade. I believe at some point there was some evaluation done to assess where they should be in math, and up they went. As 6th graders, they go to the local middle school to take math with the AAP 7th graders. No one blinks an eye. It is very clear to everyone, kids included, that this group of 6 or 7 kids are heads and shoulders above the rest when it comes to math. |
A lot of kids in AAP were in private school prior to 3rd grade. Their parents put them through cram private schools where no time is "wasted" going over class rules for the first month. Going by your explanation, if there are 5th grade AAP kids taking math with 7th grade AAP kids, you have to wonder if those 7th grade AAP kids qualify to be in AAP. |
You must work a bit on comprehension. |
| Ha! I wish our AAP Scented would allow this. "No dear, your child is fine and will find challenge in whatever math class the are in. " Bleech. |
What is AAP scented? Strawberries? Spring Rain? Fresh Baked Cookies?

Again then, you have to wonder about those 7th grade AAP kids who must take the same math class as 6th grade AAP kids. |
Well, if you knew those 6th grade math whizzes you wouldn't bother with asking the question. |
Don't need to know about the 6th graders. It's those 7th graders that probably don't belong in AAP. |
|
| Not really.....the 7th graders could be one year ahead and the sixth graders two years ahead.... |
