Therapist specializing in adult children of narcissistic parents

Anonymous
I would love to find a therapist for help in dealing with my narcissistic parents. I am not interested in one who can help "build a bridge" to them or anything- I need one who understands how toxic they are, and would help me cut them off entirely and feel okay about it.

Also, and I doubt I'll be able to find this, but do any of them do therapy sessions via telephone? I have a new baby and I just can't drive out to see them.

How much do they run? Do any accept insurance?

Ah! No one? Come on guys, half the people on this board have families with NPD, or say comments like "Get Therapy!" NOthing?

Lots of therapists deal with your issue, OP. I'm not sure you'll need a specialist. My advice is to go on the Psychology Today website and review profiles of therapists and see who you like, then set up a phone consult and take it from there.

Second 18:32. Also, you don't mention if the "narcissistic" diagnosis is official or not, but, regardless, these disorders typically co-occur with traits of others. So, really, what you need is not necessarily a specialist in narcissists, but a very experienced, highly-recommended therapist listed in your insurance network.

Best thing to do is just review your insurance network list of providers alongside a reputable "best" list of providers. For instance, Washingtonian provides an online list of best psychiatrists. You need a psychologist, but a "best" psychiatrist might be a good way to start - at least the psychiatrist would provide you with several recommendations of psychologists.

This is the bread-and-butter of psychotherapy. Try Psychology Today.
