I have a new website that tries to help families get into canoeing. It is only a few days old, but has some information to get started. I thought I would list it now since it is the start of summer.

Kayaks can explore open water more easily and safely than open canoes. So I did not include any paddling on the Potomac in my list of places to paddle. Since canoes are open, we have to be more concerned with waves, wind and open water than kayaks.

I read your blog post, OP. I nearly didn't marry my fiance after a canoe trip in a tandem canoe. I vowed never to set foot in a canoe with him again and haven't to this day!

Just paddle with someone else. Find that laid back friend to paddle with. Or paddle solo in a kayak or canoe.

lol..I live in Whetstone/MV, and was cool to see it posted. I've been here for over 20 years and have never been on the lake and don't think anyone on my street either.
