Alexandria parents: Can you transfer into Mount Vernon Community School?

| A recent poster started a thread about transferring out of MVCS because of the year-round calendar and language immersion. I really like the idea of both of those programs, but I'm not in the MVCS district. Is it possible to transfer into MVCS from elsewhere in Alexandria? OP of the original thread, I want your spot! |

| You can, but it's not easy. MVCS is pretty popular and generally doesn't have open slots. If for legit family reasons you really need the alt-schedule, you can apply for an Admin Transfer. If you get it and all goes well, it is purely ministerial paperwork to have it renewed each year (they don't like to force avulsive changes on kids already enrolled and doing well). But there aren't a ton of slots and the school is well-liked. You should call the MVCS office, see the Principal or Asst, take the tour and ask. No Admin Transfer is ordinarily granted without at least a soft-OK from the School itself. |
