Sherwood High School / Magruder High School Clusters

Anonymous
We are moving to the area from Seattle. I was hoping someone could give me feedback on the Elementary and Middle Schools associated with Sherwood HS (Farquhar MS, Sherwood ES, Rosa Parks MS, Belmont ES, Greenwood ES, and Olney ES) and / or Magruder HS(Redland MS, Cashell ES, Judith A. Resnik ES, Sequoyah ES, Shady Grove MS, Candlewood ES, Flower Hill ES, Mill Creek Towne ES). My children are 5 and 7. Where ever we end up buying is where we are going to stay until they go to college. I've reviewed the testing data and know this is just one aspect of the schools in question. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Sherwood cluster is "better." I live in the Flower Hill assignment zone and we are planning to move before our oldest gets to kindergarten. Magruder is a decent school, and so is Redland. you might try searching this board for those specific schools--I think most of them have come up before.

For what it's worth, Cashell Elementary is one of the best in all of Montgomery County and is in the Magruder cluster...

I agree, Cashell is a great school (my oldest son has been there almost 2 years now). I don't know that you can absolutely say the Sherwood cluster is better. When we moved into our neighborhood, I had some concerns about Magruder HS based on Montogomery County survey results of teachers and students. But, I still think its a good high school.

To the Flower Hill poster above, though my initial impression wasn't great when I met the Principal, I've been more than pleased with the teachers in the early grades.

I'd err on the side of Sherwood if you can't do in depth research into all the elementary/middle schools.

Remember that some Sherwood ES, Farquhar MS kids get sent to Blake which is inferior to both HS

PP, in what way is Blake inferior?
