IB Programs at Hughes and South Lakes

Anonymous
I'm a little confused about the IB program at Hughes Middle School and South Lakes HS.

Is there an IB program at South Lakes for Middle School or would my DC attend Hughes first and then South Lakes?
Do you have to apply to attend the IB program?

TIA!

The IB program at Hughes is called the MYP ("Middle Years Program"). So your DC would go to Hughes and then South Lakes. Some of the other middle schools that feed into high schools with IB programs don't have the MYP program. The students interested in IB at those schools just start with IB courses in high school.

IB is open enrollment at Fairfax County schools, but you'd have to fill out an application application to "pupil place" IF you don't live in the Hughes or South Lakes districts and want your kid to attend those schools for the IB programs. If that were your situation, and you were thinking about next year, you'd need to get the application in by April 15th.

Thank you very much for the information.

Does anyone have any experience with the Hughes and South Lakes IB program?
