Cats on kitchen counter

Yeah, I’m pretty happy my cat never jumps on my counters. There is no window close by so I guess there is nothing to see. I do have perches in two windows so I guess that is much more interesting for him.

Agree and I have a cat that keeps jumping on the counter!

I do have disinfectant wipes and wipe all surfaces before food preparation and the table before eating. My counters and table are cleaner than yours because they're disinfected multiple times a day. I'm a germophobe and don't want a little cat butthole to touch any surface that might have food. So disgusting!

Yeah, mine just jump up there to get to the window sill so they can watch birds outside. It’s not like they just sit around on the counters. This is so far down on my list of things to worry about. They bring us far more joy than any negligible risk of contamination is worth.

So when you find piss covered grit from the litter box on your table because it was stuck in your cat's toe, you just pluck it off with your bare hand?

That’s never, ever happened to me once in decades of owning multiple cats. Cats are very fastidious animals. If they feel grit in between their toes, they will stop and groom themselves before proceeding. Mine generally pause for a grooming session every time they leave the litter box.

I hope all you “cats are disgusting” people aren’t dog owners, because I’ve seen dogs do something far more disgusting in a cat’s litter box.

Absolutely disgusting.

Licking something doesn’t remove the germs.

But dogs don't climb onto kitchen counters

You’re deleriois.

Jesus, people, disgusting and delerious are going to be on the Words Your Way spelling list for the week.

I also have two cats and I refuse to allow them on the counter because it is gross. That said, I think a lot more cat owners would be a lot sicker a lot more if there were huge health risks (as opposed to general grossness risks) from cats on counters. We also use the Tidy Cat Breeze litterbox system so that we don't get litter tracking.

My cats didn't used to get on counters much but lately they will not stop and I've kind of gone scorched earth and spray them with water or push them off every time I see it. It is getting better.

That being said, who is preparing food on counters that haven't freshly cleaned? It's really only a germ issue if you aren't cleaning your counters...

Of course, it's gross. But you must not own a cat. It's also hard to keep a cat from getting onto a counter 100% of the time.
We trained our cat by putting tinfoil on the counter while she was younger and she hated to walk on the tinfoil. Then it was a spray bottle. Now we spray her when we see her jump up and then lysol down the counter and the table before we eat every night.
I'm not a huge cat lover but I feel like it take 20-30 seconds a day to do and then I know it's clean.

I am an animal lover but I find a dog jumping on the bed after its been taken for a walk outside and stepping in who knows what just as disgusting.

However, I’m fortunate that my cats don’t jump on the counter (that I know of and nothing appears disturbed) but I still wipe it down especially in the morning and at night. I’m no saint and know they’ve been hanging out in the litter pan.😂

This, but I think it's so much more disgusting. Dogs track in god knows what, jump on your bed, sit on your sofas, etc. They track in wayyyyyy more than just their own pee and poop. And at least cats lick and clean their buttholes and paws about 345 times a day.

Except you misspelled delirious.

Yeah its gross but its an easy fix, wipe your counters before you use them for food. I spray my cat any time he jumps on the counter, and he jumps right back off but it doesn't seem to matter the next day when he does it again. Same with the table. Its my least favorite part of cat onwership for sure!
